Like being a massive underdog and winning anyway, or coming together as a team to overcome adversity, overthrowing racism and indifference, or even just to celebrate the awesomeness of what its like to be on a team.

There is usually a common thread running through these movies, and it usually pertains to one of two things:

Winning, or losing…a lot.

Your team won a championship? Hell, make a damn movie. Lose for 80 or 100 straight years? Sure, make a damn movie.

But…wallow in perpetual mediocrity for 38 years? Make a movie?

Yes, I think its gone.

We’ve been ranting about the redonkulous Canucks 7th man bulls*** for a while here at GoCanuckYourself, starting with this post, then chiming in on the CDC message boards HERE and HERE. And have even made and exclusive Canucks Fan Quotes 7th Man edition post on our site.

All dedicated to the lamest marketing ploy I’ve seen by a pro sports team since free AA battery night at a Springfield Isotopes game.

And I think that officially, we might have killed it.

You know theres something completely bass ackwards about it when its something that most Canucks Fans actually agree with me about.

I actually thought that the ridiculous amount that I hate the whole 7th man thing would be a good indication of how much people on the CDC forums would somehow love the idea…because thats how it normally works. So imagine my shock when I started reading some of this awesomeness:

This one is sweet, so much anger:

 ”I was at the game when they unveiled the 7th man and it was straight up embarrassing. We head to our seats to find the cheapest pieces of s&*% little flags with the number 7 on them, and I’m thinking OH NO, what is going on here.

Then little Cliffy and some old fart comes out with a podium and a yellow plastic hockey stick attached to it. The announcer starts in with some terrible countdown and I look at my friends and we all can’t believe the cheese that we’re seeing here, not to mention being laughed at by the Oiler fans surrounding us. How do you defend it?

Or better yet, you were in the NHL for like 30 years and you wanted to be a way better player, so your team announced you as the seasons MVP before the season started in hopes that you would become that good.

Thats pretty much how the Canucks went about it for this 7th man hullabaloo.

But in this case they ripped off the idea from football, and planned a big-ass overblown ceremony for their completely made-up corporate uber schlockiness like it was some sort of significant and important award that hadn’t been hatched in a corporate boardroom by marketing execs looking for a desparate way to increase brand loyalty in these troubled economic times. It’s truly is remarkable, especially considering how Canucks fans are known world as probably the most fickle and delerious sports fans on the planet.

Lets start with a link to a guy that was apparently a HUGE fan of GM Mike Gilles in the offseason, and I guess he was defending some of his awesome moves. And now, since the Canucks have won a single game of an 82 game season, he is demanding apologies for everybody who ever said anything bad about Gilles ever:

Oh ya, and arguing on a Vancouver Canucks Message board is like using a tennis racket to bat away feces being thrown at you by a gas huffing monkey.

I don’t think I’ve seen a Canuck team play that well in like four years. Not that I’m planning the parade route but its nice to be able to get stoked that your team isn’t just a bunch of pansy europeans anymore.

6 - 0 Canucks, Goals by Henrik, Bernier, Burrows x 2, Ohland, Rypien and your mom.

Bernier was an assist away from a Gordie Howe hat-trick, which I don’t think has happened to the Canucks since Odjick was on board.

Good start, but lets not forget that Calgary looked like balls and that we play in the Western Conference.

I look for sweet quotes to post here every day, and it quickly becomes the most entertaining AND easy part of my job. It’s an endless supply of Canuck-tastic gold!

I implore you to just spend 5 minutes lurking around the Canucks.com message board and you will be enlightened.

(If by goals he means shots, and by Raymond he means “Ovechkin”)

And heres a topic, and a statement, that really struck a chord with message boarders:

(So screw you Mr. Yzerman, Mr. Gretzky, Mr. Sakic, Mrs. Sundin, Mr. Crosby, Mr. Lemeiux.)
 

Whatever the crap those mean.

So instead we’ll be relegated to another season of pooping on everybody else in their attempts at wit and introspective commentary.
