Canucks Reduce Carbon Footprint by Not Making the Playoffs
April 22, 2008
This article is on the front page of Canucks.com today. Apparently it’s Earth Day, and the Canuck players are trying to go “eco-friendly”. How nice. (Place your own “crashing and burning” joke here)
Aside from the depressing fact that we’re stuck reading about Willie Mitchell’s Prius while other teams are gearing up for game 7 excitement, it’s obvious that the poor Canucks.com writers are working feverishly these days to pump out articles that have some sort of positive angle, like a rainbow through the dark cloud that’s been hanging over the team since they missed the playoffs. No “official team site” would dare post anything negative, like a “we have no GM we’re screwed” article, or “Q&A with our confused owners”, or, better yet, anything from the point of view of the average, frustrated fan.
That’s where we come in. Stay tuned to GoCanuckYourself.
Dave Nonis Gets Fired - Brilliant!
April 15, 2008
Do I like Dave Nonis? Sure.
Do I think he’s a great General Manager? Meh.
Do I think that firing him after only three seasons at the helm for the Canucks is a good idea?
F**K YEAH!
This is kind of what I bitched and moaned about near the trade deadline. The Canucks didn’t make a move, but I disagree that it was about “mortgaging their future” or availiable players…it came down to the fundamental flaw with this entire organization:
A commitment to excellence.
Outrageous Fan Call-ins: Nonis Firing
April 14, 2008
After something major like a GM firing happens, the first instinct in many fans is to call radio stations and yell things. Here, paraphrased, are a couple of my favorites from today:
- Nonis and Burke go way back and therefore, the Vancouver Canucks “intel” is being shared in the Anaheim board room! SECURITY HAS BEEN COMPROMISED!
- Something something something John Fergussen Junior is available *cut off*
I didn’t get a chance to listen to this madness for very long today…any other gems??
Why Can’t We Win?
April 7, 2008
A wise man once said, “There is no try….only do!”
Now granted it wasn’t really a man, and in fact was a small green puppett, but that shouldn’t diminish the wisdom behind the quote.
Every team “tries” doesn’t it? And given the choice, would certainly opt to be in the playoffs, or to hoist the Stanley Cup as opposed to improving their handicap throughout May and June?
So effort aside, where do most teams fall short? Personnel? Coaching? General Managership?
Sure, all of the above…but if there was one blatant (and consistant) piece to the Vancouver Canucks dismal late season play, and it was all between the legs.
It’s cojones people. It’s pure moxy. Read more
